73 people, including residents and journalists, were injured by Israeli forces trying to suppress a protest against a new settlement on the lands of Sabih Mountain near the village of Beit Dajan, east of Nablus, on Friday.
A protester was shot in the foot with live ammunition and three others with rubber bullets. Along with the shots, four journalists covering events were beaten. Several others were injured by tear gas fired by the Israeli forces.
“We are continuing with these continuous and escalating activities against the existence of this outpost,” explained Mohamed Dwekat, a member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front. Referring to the Israeli government, Dwekat added, “you have lost it, and it is very difficult to be able to place this outpost, and the people of the town of Beta continue to resist until the removal of this outpost.”
Emergency aid workers were seen carrying the wounded towards the ambulance amid billowing smoke.
Tensions are high in the region following the murder of three Palestinian men on Tuesday, allegedly classified as terrorists by the Israeli forces.
SOUNDBITES:
