State of Palestine: Spanish humanitarian worker Juana Ruiz arrives home after release on parole

Spanish humanitarian aid worker Juana Ruiz Sanchez arrived at her home in Beit Sahour on Monday, after being granted parole and released from prison in Haifa.
Sanchez expressed her happiness for her release and thanked everyone who supported her during her ten-month prison term.
“I submitted my resignation and also the institution was closed. No one is allowed to work inside it, and I have been prevented from working in any institution for five years, and for my age now, I have grown up, I want to retire, and what I care about is comfort and my home only,” said Sanchez.
The 63-year-old aid worker, was accused of financing and belonging to an illegal Palestinian organisation.
A project coordinator at the Palestinian Health Work Committees (HWC), she was detained by the Israeli military on April 13 and was officially charged in May.
She was sentenced to 13 months behind bars and a fine of 50,000 shekels (€14,000, $15,992) for the crime of “providing services to an illegal organisation.”
Israel says the HWC was diverting funds from the European donations to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is listed as a terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.

SOT, Juana Ruiz, Spanish humanitarian worker (Arabic): “I was aware of the extent of solidarity from the people who followed me, and I feel that after I was released from prison, the world was in solidarity with me. I thank everyone. I do not know how to thank them, because the issue is very big and I am very happy, and God willing, I thank them personally.”

SOT, Juana Ruiz, Spanish humanitarian worker (Arabic): “When the news came out, the prisoners came to me and told me that I would be released, and they congratulated me because I would get out of prison, and I was shocked at first by the news and they told me go get ready, then I got up to get my clothes, and everyone helped me and we cried and I told them to watch out for yourselves and I will pay attention to you, and do not worry, I will talk with all of your families.”
