State of Palestine: Tensions as Israeli soldiers block tree-planting protest near outpost in Burin

Tensions between activists and Israeli soldiers were high on Friday as demonstrators tried to carry on a tree-planting protest near the Givat Ronen outpost in the village of Burin, south of Nablus.

Dozens of Israeli citizens and activists of the ‘Peace Now’ movement with trees and shovels could be seen scuffling with security forces.

The protest came in condemnation of an attack carried out on January 21 by Israeli settlers against dozens of activists who were helping Palestinian farmers to plant olive trees. At least 10 people were injured in the incident.

“We were here a month ago and today we are here to plant the olive tree that the settlers uprooted. We stand in solidarity with the solidarity activists who were attacked last week by these criminals. We plant trees and uproot the settlers”, commented Ahmed Al-Tibi, member of the Israeli Knesset.
