Sudan: Tear gas flies as protesters clash with police in Khartoum

Security forces fired tear gas canisters at protesters in the 12th round of anti-coup protests in the capital city of Khartoum on Sunday.

The protesters marched in the direction of the Presidential Palace demanding a return to the civilian government and end to military intervention.

At least two people died in Omdurman on Sunday, one after being shot by live ammunition, according to local reports.

Several demonstrators have been reportedly killed in similar protests in recent days, during clashes at rallies that took place across the country.

On 25 October 2021, a military junta in Sudan staged a coup and dissolved the Sovereign Council and the government. A state of emergency was declared as Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was imprisoned, along with several ministers and civilian political leaders.

Due to an agreement with the coup plotters, Hamdok has returned to his post, although the protests are still continuing.
